First Sentence Friday...

Happy Friday everyone! This week I began reading book five in Sarra Cannon's wonderful series Peachville High Demons, Rival Demons. I'm loving this one as well.

Here is the first sentence of the novel:

I lifted my eyes to a foreign sun, inhaling the fresh scent of flowers as warmth seeped into my skin.

I honestly have not had a lot of time this week to read as I have been making my final round of edits with Changed before it gets sent to my editor on Monday! I'm very excited to get this book out to you all!

Also, I would really like to host a Cover Reveal Tour for Changed in about three to four weeks. This will include the cover, blurb, release date, and possibly a little excerpt. If you are interested in participating in this reveal with me, please send me an email. I do not have a set day for this Cover Reveal just yet, but as soon as I have an idea as to when the cover will be completed then I will get that date chosen and let you know.

Thanks and as always, Happy Reading!

First Sentence Friday...

Hello my lovely followers! It's Friday again, which means it's time to see what goodie I'm curently reading and share the First Sentence with you!

I'm still reading the Peachville High Demons series by Sarra Cannon. I'm currently on book five Shadow Demons. I am so in love with this series! The author manages to surprise me in each book with little twists and turns. Such a good read series!

Here's the first sentence of the novel:

Windows stared out at us like dead eyes.

A very intriguing first sentence, don't you think? Poetic almost.

In other news, I have something special planed for Monday's post! Something I'm SO excited about! If you've wanted to read Marked, but haven't bought it yet this may be your chance to get it for free. Look for my post on Monday to find out how and where...   ;)

A Day In The Life Of A Writer...

For fun today I decided that I would let you guys know what a typical day looks like for me. I'm not only a YA Fiction Writer, I'm also a stay-at-home mother of two! Here's what my days generally look like.

I wake up at 5:35 EVERY morning Monday- Friday. I'm sure you're probably wondering why on earth I would subject myself to waking up that early when I'm a stay-at-home mom, right? Well the answer is, because that's my time to take a shower and get my cup of Wild Berry Green Tea before I have to wake up my son for school. This is pretty much the only ME time for the entire day.

At 6:10 I wake up my 8 year old for school. Make him breakfast. Let me stop you right here for a minute, I am not Betty Crocker first thing in the morning, although I am technically a morning person. Breakfast Monday- Friday is usually a bowl of cereal, oatmeal, frozen waffles, frozen pancakes or something like that with either yogurt or fruit and a glass of juice.

After slaving away to make that breakfast I'll begin packing his lunch, to which I will be promptly interrupted by my just-turned-five darling daughter who will also want breakfast. After making her the EXACT same thing so as to avoid a meltdown argument about how he has this and I don't, I'll continue with packing that lunch.

My husband is there in the kitchen with me attempting to pack his lunch while he checks his iPad stuff, but really he's just standing in my way unintentionally. Which means we end up looking a lot like we are dancing in our small kitchen while we try to maneuver around each other for the things that we need.

After lunch is packed and breakfast is served, I then have a small moment to breathe while I grab up my iPod and check my email, Goodreads, my sales ranking on all three titles, and Twitter as fast as I can.

At 6:45 I kiss my hubby goodbye and help my son gather up his book bag stuff before we head out the door at 6:50. Darling daughter, our Boston Terrier, Baily, and myself walk my 8 year old to his bus stop. When he's on the bus safely we walk back to the house and I turn on my daughter's morning shows- Little Bear, Franklin and Friends, Tom and Jerry- which ever she wants to watch.

While my daughter is entertained for a moment I hop over to my laptop and check my blogger account and respond to any emails or messages I may have had. My time here only lasts for an hour before that darling daughter of mine needs something again.

At around 8:00 I get a call from my mother and we generally talk for about an hour.

And that is the first few hours of my day!

I'll not get into every little detail of the middle part of my day, but instead get to the writing part. When do I have time to write? Well, I have what I like to call "Quite time" in my house. This is at around 1:00 in the afternoon and lasts until 2:30. During this time my daughter goes to her bedroom and can quietly play, look at books, or lay down for a nap. This my friends is my writing time. Yes, I only write for 1 hr and 30 minutes a day.

This is all I give myself because I do not want to neglect the other things that I have to get done like housework, bill paying, grocery shopping, etc. But most of all I do not ever want to neglect my daughter. Guilt weighs in on me heavily if I overrun that time when a scene or chapter is too intense and going too smoothly for me to walk away after quite time is over.

How long does it take me to write a book at this pace? Well, typically it takes me 3-4 months to write a rough draft. I'm hoping that when my daughter starts school in the fall I'll be able to focus more time on my novels.

At 4:00 my husband and son come home from work and school and my morning rat race begins all over again just with a different meal-dinner, which I DO cook something like Betty Crocker. Hamburger Helper anyone? I'm just kidding, sort of. I am not the best cook in the world. Every recipe I attempt NEVER turns out the way that it should, but at least I try.

I'm sure some of you are thinking, "Well, why don't you stay up until the wee hours of the morning like me when everyone is sleeping and write." The answer: Because I enjoy sleeping just as much as that family of mine.

And that is a typical day for me!

First Sentence Friday...

Friday, yay! This week I'm continuing on with the Peachville High Demons series by Sarra Cannon. I'm on book three which is titled Bitter Demons and loving it!

Here is the first sentence of the novel:

Outside, a gentle mist coated the windshield.

There are two more books currently out in this series and the sixth and final book is being written as I'm typing this. I've stalked this authors blog and learned that she hopes to have it released before June.

Happy reading everyone, hope you're enjoying whatever your current read is!

Updates...

I've been busy with writing Changed, the sequel to Marked, these past few weeks. I'm hoping to have this released sometime in May!

A new story has taken front and center in my mind and I'm becoming engrossed in writing it as I'm doing my final rounds of editing for Changed before I send it off to my lovely editor. I don't want to giveaway any details as of yet, but if this turns into something then you will be the first to know!

Also, I'm hoping to put full focus on Hereafter in the next few months to be able to get it out there for those of you have read Touch recently and are eagerly anticipating learning what happens next to Rowan and Jet. Again this novel will not be available until the later part of the year, but I will keep you posted on it's progress.

Marked will also be going on a blog tour starting April 2nd! I'll have a banner posted up for that as well as all the stops sometime over the next few weeks. There will be giveaways with this, so be sure you look for the banner and details to find out what! ;)

Frist Sentence Friday...

It's Friday! I downloaded Beautiful Demons (Peachville High Demons #1) by Sarra Cannon a while ago when it was free on Kindle for a day. It sat on my Kindle for weeks unread and I have NO IDEA WHY!I loved it!

Here is that first sentence of the novel:

Six foster homes in one year had to be some kind of record.

I recommend this series if you enjoy books about high school witches.

My current read is Inner Demons (Peachville High Demons #2) by Sarra Cannon. And this first sentence of this novel is:

Something startled me from my sleep.

If you haven't read this series... go get it! Hope everyone has a great weekend! Happy Reading!

First Sentence Friday...

For today's First Sentence Friday I'd like to do something a little different. I'll still be sharing my current read's first sentence, but I also want to share the first sentence of some of my favorite Dr. Suess books as it is Dr. Suess's  birthday.

So I've heard a lot of good things about Shelly Crane books, but I'd never picked one up...until now. I'm reading Devour (The Devoured Series) by Shelly Crane. I love it so far! Such a different paranormal subject. And Eli... oh my, what a hottie!

Here is the first sentence of the novel:

There's a game you play.

Intriguing, right? You wanna know what game it is... I know you do. Pick up the book for only .99 and find out.

Now, let's take a look at one of the greatest children's author of all times first sentences. Little fact: Did you know that Dr. Suess wrote 46 children's books? Amazing, right?

From Fox In Socks:

Fox Socks Box Knox Knox in box.

That book is one of my favorites! My kids think it's hilarious that I can actually read through the entire book and not get tongue tied. Of course we laugh at the little side notes too. Especially the one at the very end: Now is your tongue numb?

From the classic The Cat In The Hat:

The sun did not shine.

Such a great story! I think after reading this story every kid always wishes for the Cat the visit them on a rainy day.

From Green Eggs And Ham:

I am Sam.

This book is genius. I have gotten my darling daughter who is four to eat so many foods by giving her a reminder about this story. The words "Try them! Try them! And you may!" have been said a lot around our dinner table.

What's your favorite Dr. Suess story?

Enjoy your weekend and read your little one's some Dr. Suess! Happy Reading!
