First Sentence Friday...

For today's First Sentence Friday I'd like to do something a little different. I'll still be sharing my current read's first sentence, but I also want to share the first sentence of some of my favorite Dr. Suess books as it is Dr. Suess's  birthday.

So I've heard a lot of good things about Shelly Crane books, but I'd never picked one up...until now. I'm reading Devour (The Devoured Series) by Shelly Crane. I love it so far! Such a different paranormal subject. And Eli... oh my, what a hottie!

Here is the first sentence of the novel:

There's a game you play.

Intriguing, right? You wanna know what game it is... I know you do. Pick up the book for only .99 and find out.

Now, let's take a look at one of the greatest children's author of all times first sentences. Little fact: Did you know that Dr. Suess wrote 46 children's books? Amazing, right?

From Fox In Socks:

Fox Socks Box Knox Knox in box.

That book is one of my favorites! My kids think it's hilarious that I can actually read through the entire book and not get tongue tied. Of course we laugh at the little side notes too. Especially the one at the very end: Now is your tongue numb?

From the classic The Cat In The Hat:

The sun did not shine.

Such a great story! I think after reading this story every kid always wishes for the Cat the visit them on a rainy day.

From Green Eggs And Ham:

I am Sam.

This book is genius. I have gotten my darling daughter who is four to eat so many foods by giving her a reminder about this story. The words "Try them! Try them! And you may!" have been said a lot around our dinner table.

What's your favorite Dr. Suess story?

Enjoy your weekend and read your little one's some Dr. Suess! Happy Reading!
