New Years Resolutions Anyone...

It's that time of year again...the time when we all reflect on the previous year and wonder to ourselves what goal we can set to make the next year better than the last. Some choose to break a bad habit like quiting smoking, stop biting nails, or decrease their caffeine intake. Others choose to exercise more or get more sleep.

Me? What is my New Years Resolution you ask?

I'm going with...Relax more.

Not the most interesting. But, hey, it's my resolution!

Why did I put relax more you say? I mean, come on...I am a stay at home mom. We relax all the time, right? NOT! Sometimes life and the daily stuff tends to bog me down just like the next person. Add in a 4 yr old screaming with her 7 yr old brother about which Smurfs coloring book is her's (we have two btw, exactly alike.) a dog with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome-don't know if this is true, but I swear he goes more than any dog I've ever met) and a husband who never can find anything, even when it's right in front of his face. Pile on all the shopping and bills, school functions and library story times, and you have me. One stressed out Mama.

I'm a fairly positive person who at least attempts to find the silver lining in most situations, but there again, life sometimes tends to bog me down and I loose track of that. Like when the lady talking on her cell phone in the car in front of me forgets to use her blinker and locks 'em up before turning...I tend to loose my more positive attitude. Or when the grumpy old man in the grocery store nearly kills my 4 yr old with his electric scooter chair thing twice in the same isle. Well, you get the picture.

So yes, Relax more. It's a biggie. What's your resolution for 2012?

YA Indie Author Interview Spotlight With Madeline Freeman...

It's Friday! You know what that means...time for another YA Indie Author Spotlight! This week I've got Madeline Freeman, author of Awaking(The Naturals) !

Cover for 'Awaking (The Naturals: Book One)'

Summery:

Morgan Abbey’s life is about to change.

Just weeks before her senior year is set to begin, a mysterious stranger approaches Morgan with information that has far-reaching ramifications. First, the psychic ability she believes she has just been pretending to have since middle school might actually be real.

Second, her mother, who disappeared abruptly and completely almost a decade ago, might still be alive.

Morgan finds herself drawn into a centuries-old struggle involving a group of people who quietly coexist alongside the common people of the world. This shadowy group believes it is time for them to reclaim their former positions of power—and they believe Morgan is the key.

But when the time comes, will Morgan be able to do what it takes to reunite with her mother and fulfill her destiny? And will she even want to?

The first sentence of the novel:
Morgan Abbey noticed him during a routine day of telling fortunes at the park.

Awaking(The Naturals) can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords.

1)What inspired you to write this story?
This story has been a long time in the making. The original idea centered around a girl--Morgan Abbey. She's different, she doesn't fit in. She's got darkness in her past. But she's also special. I wrote the first draft around 2002. It was much, much different than Awaking is now. When I got to the end of the first draft, I realized that I hadn't quite hit the mark I'd wanted to hit: I wanted a high-stakes story, one that could appeal to people even if they weren't usually a fan of more fantasy-type books. The first draft didn't do that. I began a second draft later--one that more closely resembles Awaking--but I didn't get very far before life got "too busy" for me to write. It wasn't until March 2011 that I started working on the book in earnest. My inspiration? Finally finishing something and bringing it to a point where I'm proud of it. Publishing a book and having people I don't know buy it. Fulfilling the dream I've cherished for decades.

2)What drew you to write in the young adult genre?
I've always loved the YA genre. As an adult, it's still my go-to genre when I want to read a book. Also, I'm a high school teacher, so I spend most of my time with the YA target audience. I'm kind of a young soul, I guess, so YA just seems like a good fit for me.

3)Is there a genre you'd like to try and write in someday?
I might try chick-lit some day. Or maybe something a little more literary. Like many writers, I've got more ideas than time in the day!

4)What is your guilty pleasure?
TV on DVD is definitely a guilty pleasure. I know I shouldn't spend so much time watching it, but I can't help it. I especially like obscure, old things. Netflix is an addiction.

5)What were the last five books you read?
Immanuel's Veins by Ted Dekker, Three Girls and a Baby by Rachel Schurig, Bumped by Megan McCafferty, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

Author Bio:
Madeline Freeman lives in the metro-Detroit area with her husband, her cats, her sister, and her sister’s cat. In her spare time, she reads, sews, rides her bike, and watches way too much TV on DVD. She also loves anything to do with astronomy, outer space, plate tectonics, and dinosaurs. This is her first published novel.

You can learn more about Madeline on her Website.

I hope everyone has an absolutely awesome weekend however you choose to spend your Holidays! And as always, Happy Reading!

Some Updates...

So here is my post of random updates for the month.

1) Marked is *almost* finished! I've got it out with a few more Beta readers and have set it aside for a few weeks so that I can go back to it with a set of fresh eyes.

2) I've created a cover for Marked that I love and cannot wait to share it with you...soon. First I'm tweaking a blurb.

3) I'm currently working on writing Changed, the sequel to Marked, as we speak. Which means *hopefully* there won't be too long of a wait in between each book.

4) I've also jotted down some idea's and little scenes for Hereafter lately. I'm really wanting to get this novel out there for those of you who have read Touch and Choice...the problem...I have another novel idea that's taking over  my brain. Something new. I keep smacking it away, for the moment, though!

5) In case you haven't noticed...Shattered Soul is still free on Smashwords.com! It's also received another 5 STAR review there! Yay!

6) Here is the AWESOME review for it:

"This story really hurt my heart. Whereas I did like Ali's character, I really was a bigger fan of Seth. I just really wanted to see him get out of the situation he was in and I was really hoping Ali was going to be the one to do that! I also wanted to see Calvin in jail!. Overall though I could not put the book down!" - Lisa Davall

And there you have it. I hope everyone is having a great week!

YA Indie Author Interview Spotlight With Marlon Pierre-Antoine...

Hello! Time for another Friday YA Indie Author Interview Spotlight! Today's is with Marlon Pierre-Antoine, author of Wandering Stars!

Summery:
Alice Valdez is a normal seventeen year old girl living a mundane post high school life that consists of work, sleep, hanging out, and more work - but it all changes when a chance encounter on the beach one night leads to a series of haunting dreams that bring her face to face with the most ancient evil the Universe has ever known.

The first sentence of the novel:
They say love is blind...but it isn't.

Wandering Stars can be purchased on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, and through World Castle Publishing.

1) What do you hope people take away from your stories?
Wandering Stars asks the readers if someone can ever really change, if love can overcome hate - more specifically, if new love can overcome the most ancient hatred in the Universe. I'm writing about Lucifer here, about Lucifer falling in love with a teenage human girl. But Wandering Stars takes you beyond the image of the Devil you're familiar with. The evil is still there of course, but he's more than that. So you'll have this situation where suddenly he and Alice find that everything they thought they knew was true is being called into question, and together they have to find the real truth.

2) What is your writing process?
I'm not sure if "process" is the right word, it's more of a hodgepodge, but once I've finished the outline I like to sit down in the evening with my notebook and let the story carry me along. Frequently I diverge from where I originally set out to go because my characters tend to take on lives of their own and pull me in certain directions - that's why I wrote Helena's Empire, the prequel to Wandering Stars; Helena is a side character in my novel but she begged for a more full exposure of her story until I eventually caved in and gave it to her.

3) Is there a genre that you might like to try and write in someday?
After the Wandering Stars series is finished I wouldn't mind trying my hand at science fiction, while still remaining in YA and romance. I've been a fan of the Roswell High books by Melinda Metz since I was fourteen.

4) What are you currently working on now?
I'm writing the sequel to Wandering Stars, which is tentatively titled Silvernight. There isn't much I can say about it right now, but for any readers who are wondering, you will see the return of some old characters - some of which you may not expect.

5) What were that last five books you read?
Immortal Embrace and Blood and Magick: Betrayed, two excellent paranormal novels by fellow World Castle authors, and I've recently re-read Breaking Dawn, Blood Sucking Fiends and Reason in Revolt.

Author Bio:
Born and raised in Florida, Marlon moved to Iowa in the summer of 2008 after finishing his last year in high school to be with his long-distance girlfriend. Owing to that leap of faith, Marlon's experience with the motivating power of love inform and inspire his writing. A lifelong fascination with world mythology and legend has lead to the infusion of the supernatural into his stories.

You can learn more about Marlon Pierre-Antoine on his Website, Facebook Page, and on Twitter.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! And  as always...Happy Reading!

The Ascended Blog Hop Time...

Hey everyone! Welcome to the next stop of The Ascended Blog Tour! As you all may know, The Ascended is Tiffany King's third and final book in The Saving Angels Series. I am so honored to be a part of this tour and am thrilled to give you this excerpt...ready? I know you are! Okay, here it is!

***
It took us most of the day to hike to the temporary campsite Haniel had chosen beforehand. The hiking wasn't as bad as I had originally anticipated although the throbbing blisters on my heels would beg to differ.
The terrain of the mountain slowly changed the further we hiked. The trees now seemed larger and more forbidding. There was a tranquil beauty to the vast wilderness that surrounded us and yet, an eerie feeling that something unexpected could happen at any moment. Strangely though, the weight that had been sitting on my chest for the last two months began to ease and I wasn't sure what to make of it. Was I getting closer to Mark? Within the cloud of unease that had each of the Guides on edge as we trudged along, I could pick up the slightest flicker of pure goodness shining in the midst of it all. Maybe it was coming from our missing pair, but somewhere in my heart of hearts I wanted to believe it belonged to someone else.
Haniel stayed by my side the majority of the afternoon and after several hours I removed my headphones so I could chat with him.
"You are done with your instrument?" He asked, indicating my iTouch.
"iTouch," I corrected. "Yeah, I love music, but after awhile it begins to give me a headache."
"I see," he said. "So, tell me what you have learned about this mountain," he continued, making it clear that my recent research hadn't gone unnoticed.
I smiled at him sheepishly before plunging in with the details I had come across. "The legends go back many years. The townspeople believe that hidden beneath the mountaintop is an entire sunken continent called Lemuria. They believe it is inhabited by mystical beings, even to this day. I'm sure Victor has used the legend to take control of the mountaintop. The townspeople believe the dark and evil undertones of the mountain come from the inhabitants of the lost continent as a warning to stay away. They respect the legends and treat this mountain as sacred ground."
"Very good, Victor has found the inner catacombs of the mountain and has been using it for his purposes for many years. The Light has informed me that The Dark one plans on using Victor and this mountain to try to take over what The Light has created. They will be stopped."
"What is Mark's role in all of this?" I asked quietly, hoping my friends couldn't hear.
"His plans are murky at the moment. It is unclear what path he will ultimately decide to take."
"So, there is hope?" I asked.
"Krista, there is always hope. At one time even Victor stood on the pinnacle of hope before he leapt into the darkness he shrouds himself in," Haniel said, making his point clear. There was always a chance of hope, but the question was, could that small chance of hope ward off the evilness that was eagerly waiting to suck it in?

YA Indie Author Interview Spotlight With Elizabeth Reyes...

Hello everyone, time for another YA Indie Author Interview Spotlight! Today I've got Elizabeth Reyes on, author of The Moreno Brothers series! If you've read this series then you're in for a surprise because this interview is for Making You Mine!

Blurb:
Always in control, the meticulous and professional Salvador Moreno is thrown for a loop when the newly hired bartender Grace Zendejas suddenly invades his family’s restaurant, and infuriatingly, his every thought. For the first time in his life, Sal is fumbling. But after recovering from a few blunders he discovers his feelings for Grace run much deeper.

Things begin to heat up between him and Grace, but then the ever-perfect Sal does something even his brothers never did—screws up royally. Now he’s scrambling to cover up a mistake he knows could cost him dearly. As his relationship with Grace grows even more serious, Sal's secret is a ticking bomb, threatening to destroy the one thing he now lives and breathes for—his relationship with the love of his life—Grace.

The first sentence of the novel:
It took a few minutes for the blurry room to come into focus.

Making You Mine will be available this December on Amazon, Barnes&Nobel, and Smashwords.

1)What is your writing process like?
The story always has to already be in my head. I always know before I even start writing where the big explosive scenes are going to be. But I'd write the story in order DYING to get to get to that part for example in the very first of my Moreno Brothers series. When Angel finally finds out the truth about Sydney. I did the same in Always Been Mine when Alex finally explodes letting it all out at the most inopportune moment/place ever. After that with the rest I gave in to the temptation and just started writing those scenes first, then going back and writing the build up to them. As someone on my Facebook put it so well when I posted how it felt like cheating, "You can't get there unless you know where you're going." I wrote the big scenes to the next three in the series and then went back and wrote the build up. I think I'll do this from now on. Interestingly, in the new series the first two stories just came at me from start to finish so for the first time ever I had to write an outline so that I wouldn't forget any important parts. This may be a new thing for me. We'll see how it all works out.

2) You've mentioned this is a series. What can readers expect from Sal's story Making You Mine?
As with the others in the series. Angst. Lots of it. And this one will be much longer than the rest. I didn't do this with the sole intent of just making it longer. There was just a lot more story to tell before it all came together. I'm really hoping my readers don't feel the length but enjoy it. And of course a longer epilogue. Then there is the bonus short of Angel and Sarah that I announced a few weeks back. It will be included with Sal's story.

3)What do you do when you're not writing?
I'm a full time stay home mom. So I do all the millions of things stay-home mothers do, clean, cook, laundry, deal with teenagers, and yes I'm a soccer mom as well. I also love gardening. My backyard is over half an acre so I have plenty of room to work with.

4)Is there a genre you might like to try and write in someday?
I actually have a YA paranormal romance in the works. Readers can read an Excerpt of it on my blog. I've only written a few chapters but I'd love to get it out there someday.

5)What were the last four books you read?
I read a lot so I'll just mention the last four that really stood out. First of all let me get my bragging boots on here. *clears throat loudly* I recently had the pleasure of being one of the very first to read the much anticipated Good For You by Tammara Webber.  O.M.G! Her fans are going to swoon! Rowr!

Others I recently read and loved The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines. I love me my alphas and this one had a very hot one. =)

One book that I happened to discover completely on accident and absolutely LOVED was On The Island by Tracey Garvis-Graves. Amazing. Just amazing!! This author is now on my auto buy list!

One other recent read that had me taking a cold shower after is Unleashed  by Cherrie Lynn. Talk about having to fan yourself as you read. I've had my share of sexy reads but DANG Cherrie can write some HOT scenes!

Author Bio:
I was born and raised and continue to live in sunny southern California. I've been married for almost 18 years and have two wonderful teens. My love for writing began when I was just a kid though, I never really  had any dreams or aspirations of doing it for a living. Then along came  the age of eReaders and I saw an opportunity to get my writing out for the world to read without jumping through hoops and getting past the red tape of trying to get traditionally published. The Moreno Brothers series has literally changed my life. I now wake up  to go to work a few yards from my bed. Forever Mine is the first in the series and is currently still free on Amazon but I anticipate that changing real soon. Always Been Mine is the second in the series, then Sweet Sofie and recently released Romero is the fourth. Making You Mine is the fifth in the series and will be available tentatively this December 2011. I  already have another series in int the works  that will immediately follow this one. (No I won't be taking any vacations from writing!) I will have more info sneak and peeks of that series which will be out in 2012. But I have so many other stories screaming to be told I only wish I could write faster!

You can learn more about Elizabeth Reyes and all of her books on her Blog.

*I've read Forever Mine and LOVED it! If you haven't, you should! Snag it up people while it's still free!*

Thank you Elizabeth for being on the blog today! Happy Reading people! ;)
